This image is from the archives: 2007 November 19. Emile is unknotting the tie-downs along the bottom edge of the tipi in preparation for removing the cover. In the background two of the other tipi covers are on the ground near their platforms. This was a late date to be taking down the tipis. Ultraviolet rays and high winds are two factors that shorten the useful life of tipi covers. Therefore, we try to put the tipis up as late as feasible, and to take them down as soon as possible after the last guests leave Wingsprings. This year, for instance, cousin Jackie and I took them down the last week of August [see Oko 27].
