Three years ago this week there was a good cover of snow at Wingsprings, as can be seen in this picture. The central image is of the willow frame of an initi, or purification lodge. At its center is the fireplace into which heated rocks were placed. This fireplace is located directly on the Wingsprings west-east axis that extends from the peak of Bear In The Lodge Creek Butte through the center of the Wingsprings built forms and then through the center of this fireplace before continuing on eastward. To the left, or east in this case, of the fireplace and on the Wingsprings west-east axis, but beyond the picture frame, is the fire pit in which the rocks were heated. The initi is approximately 890 feet east of the Wingsprings hocoka.
