Expertly camouflaged in the grass, a mother grouse sits on her nest, incubating her eggs. Looking closely, you can see her head toward the top of the photo, pointed away from the picture taker. When an intruder approaches, she stays motionless until the very last possible moment before leaving her nest, and then returns as soon as the danger has diminished. The photo above was taken after she returned. And this one below was taken 5 days later while she was away. She had 14 eggs in her nest.
