Sunrise winter solstice shadow. This Thursday morning is the farthest south that the sun rises over the course of a year. And consequently, the cockpit’s shadow at dawn is cast onto its farthest north trajectory. It is not a coincidence that the trajectory of the cockpit’s shadow this morning is the same trajectory to the setting sun on the summer solstice. In other words, the dawn winter solstice shadow of the cockpit points to the horizon location where the summer solstice sun sets. Its taken me four years of observation and reflection to figure this out. But now it seems so logical and therefore baffling that i didn’t realize it sooner. Like Grandpa used to tease, i’m a slow learner.
