Deer and rabbits, and even porcupines [though none have been seen] are gnawing the bark of trees and bushes. This is the lean time of year when food is scarce. The four-leggeds are after the soft sappier layer between the bark and the inner wood of the tree. Even though one can imagine the gnaw marks from a rabbit’s front teeth, the ragged edges of the gnawed area, plus its height above the ground, indicate that this is the work of a deer. Monday the 28th was the Wingsprings sunrise day that signals the beginning of another Wingsprings year.
