Monday, Jul 1 to Sunday, Jul 7, 2013: high 92, low 55
Luis and Corey prepared the wicoti and then we set up a tipi and both wall tents. We intended to set up all four tipis, but the canvas covers of the first three tore in the process. One tear was small enough that we could go ahead and leave it set up. And because only two of the incoming students planned on staying in the wicoti, we didn’t attempt to set up the other tipi. In the picture above, Luis (r) and Corey (l) are sweeping the wooden platforms over which the tipis and tents would be set up.
In the wicoti above you can see the bundled tents and tipis (except for the west one) sitting atop the platforms. The west tipi is spread out on the ground, and its poles are set up behind it. But its canvas cover ended up tearing so we had to remove it. The picture below is of the southwest tipi. Corey is installing the lacing pins that tie the cover together. Though this cover too tore, the tear was small so this tipi was left standing.
