Saturday’s early evening golden light illuminates one of the chalky banks along the ridge east of the house. The banks are pocked with holes such as on the right side of the image above. Some are obviously used by rabbits. As for the others, one’s imagination can conjure up canines and serpents as residents. The camera’s fast shutter speed obfuscates the high winds that were clocked in the 70 mph range. And the warm light foreshadows the early night prairie fire that was visible about four miles or so to the southwest. The land is so dry that the fire danger is exceedingly high.
