It was a strange sight first thing Monday morning: a pin-tail grouse roosting in one of the small trees in the hocoka. Then a second one joined her. But before i could get the camera, one of them flew off. This one, though, remained just long enough for me to snap a picture through the bathroom window, then she too took flight. Grouses are not known for being skillful pilots, so it is remarkable that the two of them were able to land in the little tree. As you can see, there was quite a bit of snow still remaining from the weekend.
