Dan and i started backfilling around the gallery walls last week after we installed a rubberized sticky membrane onto a waterprooting we painted on the concrete walls. Then we filled the trenches to the top of the footings and laid a drain tile all the way around the gallery. It is a plastic tube with slots cut into it so moisture can enter. A fabric sock covers the tube to keep dirt out. We backfilled with fill dirt in 12”-18” lifts, packing each with a tamper, and then filled the last 6” with top soil. We carried the backfill dirt and top soil in the bucket of the bobcat and dumped it into the trenches. To fill where Dan is in the photo above, we built a dirt ramp up the concrete steps. Beyond it you can see the plywood that we drove on so that the bobcat tires would not tear up the grass. On the left side of the photo is the side-by-side that at least one rabbit apparently likes to catch rides on.
