It was snowing and blowing all morning Wednesday and into the afternoon. So it was surprising to get an afternoon call from a delivery truck driver that he was in Kyle and would deliver the new trusses in an hour or so. Come to find out, he was driving a semi and pulling a full-length flatbed trailer. I met him at the highway and drove him to the house. He decided that even if he could make it to the house, he would not be able to turn around or get back up that first ridge. So he decided to drop the trusses beside the road just inside the fence line. He was able to make the turn and cross the autogate, then stopped on the road just beyond the right edge of the photo above. Next, keeping the semi on the road, he backed the rear wheels of the trailer off the south side of the road and parked to remove the straps holding the trusses onto the trailer. Then, using hydralics, he lifted the front of the trailer (where the trusses were located) so they would roll to the back of the trailer. The big trusses did roll to the back of the long trailer, but the stack of small trusses tumbled off the trailer’s north side, the strap bundling them together burst, and they scattered all over. He and i pulled them into the four piles above. Then by backing up and stopping suddenly, the big trusses dropped off the end of the trailer and landed where they are in the photo above. So the trusses are here! Now we just need to get them down to the house.
